Legislative Wins
We take pride in our achievements in the legislative arena. The following are some of the significant laws we have helped pass:
Current Issues
Pseudoephedrine (PSE) is an ingredient found in many common over-the-counter cold and allergy medications and is also a key component in the manufacture of methamphetamine.
Local lawmakers are considering legislation that would require a doctor’s prescription to obtain these medications. We are opposed to such measures due to the significant burdens they would impose on patients and their families, including increased healthcare and fuel costs, extended wait times at the doctor’s office and lost wages due to time off work.
Our Proposal
We propose a real-time, stop-sale system. Missouri has been participating in the National Precursor Log Exchange (NPLEx), an electronic technology that immediately blocks the sale of PSE-containing products that exceed the legal limit. This system offers a more reasonable and appropriate approach to the methamphetamine problem in our state while maintaining consumer access to safe and effective cold and allergy medicines containing PSE.
